Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in relevant degree field(s) as determined by the agency.

Experience as a Social Studies teacher or related field is preferred; experience with secondary History-Government or related instruction is preferred.

·         Knowledge of current research and issues related to Social Studies.
·         Knowledge of school improvement and technical assistance
·         Broad knowledge of educational issues
·         Basic knowledge of testing/assessment principles and practices
·         Knowledge and skills related to group dynamics and team participation and facilitation
·         Effective teaming, interpersonal, staff development and facilitation skills
·         Knowledge of federal grant writing and reporting protocols
·         Skills in report writing and communication of findings to a range of audiences
·         Excellent public relation and communications skills
·         Effective problem-solving, planning, and decision making skills
·          Ability to design and implement programs and facilitate staff development.
 
 
 
This position serves as the Education Program Consultant for the Career, Standards and Assessment Services Team and supports the field and agency in the area of history; civics-government; economics and geography. This position also serves as back-up for the writing, library media, literacy and world language Education Program Consultants. Failure to conduct assignments in a competent manner can result in serious program disruption or confusion.
The members of the Career, Standards and Assessment Services will assist in implementing state and federal legislation and regulations. Team members will address school improvement, accountability, standards development, assessment development and implementation at building and district levels. Team members will provide both off and on-site technical assistance, provide and broker instructional resource, provide professional development both individually and as an integrated support team, with a strong focus on both school and student improvement.
 
The team member designated for the position will work in a collaborative and integrated approach with members of the Career, Standards and Assessment Services and other agency teams to provide guidance and technical assistance to the agency and the staff of school districts with an emphasis on History-Government (Social Studies) standards and assessments, including:
1.       co-facilitating the revision of the state History-Government standards;
2.       assisting with History-Government assessment item writing, item reviews and bias reviews;
3.       interpreting state History-Government assessment results both internally and externally;
4.       designing and implementation of state-wide programs related to History-Government standards and assessments;
5.       Facilitating the revision of the Law Public Safety and Security career cluster; and
6.       Facilitating the revision of the Government and Public Administration career cluster.
 
The team member designated for the position will work in a collaborative and integrated approach with members of the Career, Standards and Assessment Services and other agency teams to provide expertise, knowledge, and assistance with all aspects of History-Government, including:
1.          contributing to team assignments as a general member, facilitator, project lead or other specifically designated roles as needed; and
2.          assuming the role of lead team member in the member’s unique area of expertise, especially in the area of History-Government.
Other duties of the Career, Standards and Assessment Services Team member will include:
1.       presentations, both internally and externally, related to History Government and other content area assessments;
2.       participate and represent KSDE in a professional manner  at local, state and national committees and events;
3.       serve as a broker for technical assistance for curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
4.       contribute to team assignments as a teacher/facilitator, as a general member or in other specifically designated roles, as needed;
5.       collect and analyze relevant data;
6.       assist in AYP/QPA Help Desk functions;
7.       fill the role of lead team member in the employee’s unique area of expertise; and
8.       collaborating with other education program consultants within the agency to impact School Improvement, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Teacher Education and Licensure (TEAL).
