Position: High School Principal


 

Accountability: The Superintendent


 

Job Goal: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each employee.


 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal assists the superintendent in maintaining a positive, safe learning environment. Specifically the principal is responsible for:

  1. Implementing board of education policies, administrative directives and recommending changes to bring about improvements in the operation of the school and/or district.

  2. Working cooperatively and effectively with the administrative team.

  3. Working toward professional growth through active membership and participation in local, state, and national education organizations.

  4. Assuming the duties of chief administrative officer in the absence of the superintendent.

  5. Observing, coordinating, and evaluating staff members regarding their individual and group performance.

  6. Supervision hall, cafeteria, study hall and detention hall monitors.

  7. Interviewing and communicating impressions of prospective staff members (including substitute positions) as directed by the superintendent.

  8. Administering all attendance, tardiness, and disciplinary procedures, policies, and programs.

  9. Ensuring due process in all student disciplinary hearings.

  10. Maintaining accurate student records.

  11. Acting as liaison with appropriate outside agencies.

  12. Assuming responsibility at co-curricular events as assigned by the superintendent.

  13. Develop schedules and assignments of personnel.

  14. Oversees the development of the technology program, coordinate, and make recommendations for the continued growth of the technology curriculum.

  15. Initial approval/disapproval of budgetary requests.

  16. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration including the building and annual reports.

  17. Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.

  18. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces student discipline as necessary.

  19. Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

  20. Supervise all professional, paraprofessional, and classified personnel attached to the school.

  21. Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development, as appropriate.

  22. Conduct meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

  23. Assist in the inservice orientation and training of teachers.

  24. Recommend according to established policy and procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.

  25. Supervise the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.

  26. Plan and supervise fire drills, storm drills, and the emergency evacuation procedure.

  27. Produce accurate inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and maintain the security and accountability for that property.

  28. Serve as a member of assigned committees and attend as directed by the superintendent.

  29. Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.

  30. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the superintendent.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of the administration.

Qualifications:

Valid building level certificate for which assigned from the State of Kansas.

Terms of Employment:

The principal will work on a ten and one/half (10 ½) month contract.

The board will establish salary.

Working dates will be at the discretion of the superintendent.
