Job Description:

USD 216 Deerfield is seeking a strong educational leader to serve as middle/high school principal for 6th through 12th grades.  USD 216 will initiate a four day school week for the upcoming year.   Kansas Building Leadership License is required.  The principal  must posses the necessary planning, organizational skills in curriculum and instructional leadership, personnel guidance, scheduling processes, policy, law, budget, school/community relations and professional renewal.  Visit www.usd216.org for more information regarding our school district.

Critical Skills needed:

Prioritize tasks and activities to achieve the goals of the district as articulated by the Superintendent.  

Effectively lead and direct staff in creating an educational environment which, enables all capable and willing students to achieve to their fullest academic potential.

Effectively manage time, assigned duties, and manage multi tasks with attention to detail.

Attend student and district events.

Maintains ongoing communications with staff, students, parents, and community.

Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with other appropriate individuals.

Displays a positive attitude about present assignment (e.g. extra duties, committees, buildings, subject area grade level)

Attend Board of Education meetings as needed.

Evaluate and assess performance of staff.

Assures the allocation of instructional resources for optimum teaching and learning (supplies, equipment, space, etc.).

 



Salary:
Salary to be determined by the Board of Education/superintendent based on education and experience for a 1640 hours school year.

 USD 216 Deerfield serves students Pre-K through 12th grade.  The 10-11 school year initiates a four day school week, Monday through Thursday for students and staff.  

Our 1A school district is very proud of our academic success and our advanced technology.    The elementary school includes pre-kindergarten through 5th grades; the middle school includes 6th through 8th grades, and the high school includes 9th through 12th grades.   The district has achieved the Standard of Excellence in many areas in both reading and math.  Deerfield Middle School received the Challenge Award twice for excellence in reading and math due to the high achievement of our ethnically diverse population.  Deerfield Elementary is the recipient of a Technology Rich Classroom Grant which has provided students and teachers with state of the art technology.

The district is a member of the High Plains Special Education Cooperative and the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center.  The district's site based council is active which provides guidance and support for the educational programs.  Out of district enrollment is accepted and encouraged.   Professional learning committees are implemented for continued improvement in the educational process.  An after school program for elementary and middle school is implemented by the Twenty-First Century Grant.

 Primarily a rural district, Deerfield is nestled on the western plains of Kansas located along Highway 50/400 just 14 miles west of Garden City.  Deerfield is a wonderful friendly small farming community in which to live and raise a family.  The community takes pride in their schools and supports activities.  Our schools are located at the corner of 8th and Beech street on the west side of town.
