If you are a current student at a Kansas college or university it is not too late to become a Kansas educator. College students interested in becoming an educator in Kansas follow the traditional licensure path below:


Traditional Path for Current College Students
Step 1: Apply for a scholarship for future teachers if you need financial assistance. View scholarships
Step 2: Meet the eligibility requirements and apply for acceptance in an approved teacher preparation program.
Step 3: Enter approved teacher preparation program. View a list of approved teacher preparation programs in Kansas
Step 4: Graduate and complete approved teacher preparation program
Step 5: Pass content area test for the particular subject matter(s) you will be teaching View list of tests and passing requirements
Step 6: All applicants for an initial Kansas license must submit a fingerprint for KBI and FBI background checks. Request a fingerprint card and instructions
Step 7: Earn license from the Kansas Department of Education
Step 8: Begin teaching!
