Scholarships: Kansas Board of Regents Financial Assistance
This program is designed to encourage talented students to enter the teaching profession and teach in Kansas in specific curriculum areas or in underserved areas of Kansas. Scholarship recipients receive $5,000 each academic year and the scholarship may be received four years (five years in a designated five-year course of study requiring graduate work). These scholarships are offered to high school seniors who are Kansas residents who graduated from a Kansas high school with a grade point average of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must write an essay of at least 1,000 words answering the question, "What will tomorrow's teacher need in order to be effective in and out of the classroom?" Recipients must agree to perform at least 100 hours of community service during a 12-month period from September 1st through August 31st. Recipients will receive a cash award of $2,500 for each school year. The scholarship is intended to help defray the cost of tuition and books. Link
Designed to encourage talented college enrolled junior or senior students to enter the Math or Science teaching profession and teach in Kansas. Recipients sign agreements to teach two years for each year of scholarship support. Link
Designed to encourage licensed teachers to pursue full endorsement as a Special Education Teacher in Kansas. Recipients sign agreements to teach on a full-time basis for not less than three years or on a part-time basis for a period of six years. Link
Designed to encourage licensed teachers to pursue graduate work in education or students with an associate's degree to pursue an undergraduate degree in education to teach in Kansas. Recipients sign agreements to teach on a full-time basis for a period of not less than one year for each 15 credit hours or on a part-time basis for a period of time that is equivalent to full-time.
